Room for You 04:44
See you reaching down Can't stop you Hear you dreaming up Can't help you See your pillar crumble The same one I'd always placed you Raise your hands I wanna tell you Courage is a choice I wanna show you Don't walk into Hell, I'd light for you Candles, if I have to Whatever it takes not to let you out of sight Take your mask off I've got you Just your monster I'm used to See you peeking through Let your own strength lift you Use your voice I wanna scream to you, "Virtue is a name," I would'nt lie to you Here comes St Michael, I'd fight for you With archangels, if I have to Even this sword doesn't reach down to your soul Whatever it takes to get underneath and down below I'm saving a spot for you, just so you know I'm saving a spot for you, just so you know There's room left, On the couch, still, for you In the bed, still, for you There's always room

Stealer! How jealous the hardened Now you're my desktop screen Walk poetry in pocket Secret admirers, They're watching you love oblivion Sleep through adolescent romance Now you're my dream-speaker Hands outstretched, any takers? On doorsteps at night, They're watching you love oblivion On a train to urban nowhere Now you're my panda heir Break rules, cross hemispheres Just to get there, They're watching you love oblivion

Kites 05:05
It had occurred to me that some might never see the feeling that homesickness brings. We're all in this together, at least, that's what the captain used to sing. Everywhere I go as a kid in Madrid, kicking stones down the street, imaging the day we meet for coffee in Huesca. I just can't go back to selling shoelaces on East Hastings Street. I'd swear its been decades but its only been months. I heard the gunshot and I hated it it. I saw the pub brawl and I looked away. I felt a woman scream next door and shivered and thought, "it's no wonder people drop bombs on each other. No, it's not." Empty and peeling and starting again Building on feelings buried for months on end I can't believe the future isn't what they said I can't believe the future isn't what you said One day we'll fly kites, but not for war You can let my line out, I've no more slack We can catch him He's coming back Where are you going? Why are you leaving? The thought of you not being in city limits is unnerving Insomnia's a race to fall asleep last You can't beat me, come on, do your worst One day we'll fly kites, but not for war You can let my line out, I've no more slack We can catch him He's coming back

Shipwrecker 05:02
Shipwrecker, shipwrecker, run her aground and forget her The end is coming, and you still inch closer and closer Cannot escape your destructive nature, Shipwrecker, shipwrecker, run her aground and forget her It's the foreboding day you've always feared And The Scream you'll scream is worth Shipwrecker, shipwrecker, bail hearts out and tear asunder A wind blows us apart and the blow strikes you down like thunder Try as you might, you'll never be more than a weekend lover Shipwrecker, shipwrecker, bail heaerts out and tear asunder It's the foreboding day you've always feared And The Scream you'll scream is worth $120 million, my dear You swore, you swore, you swore You swore, you swore, you swore You'd never let it happen again You swore you'd never let it happen again But this death knell we're in spells disaster, once again You swore, you swore, you swore You swore, you swore, you swore You'd never let it happen again

about

Hearing Trees' self-titled debut EP launches with "Room For You," a driving rhythm and singer Graham Hnatiuk's knife-edged baritone, perfect for a long highway drive. The band follows up with "Love Oblivion", a summery love song with chiming riffs from guitarist Ava Glendinning. The pounding and introspective reference-filled lyrics of "Kites" and the haunting "Shipwrecker" round out the EP.

Hnatiuk and Glendinning are backed by bassist Joel Heidinger and drummer Kyle Kunkel. The Winnipeg-based group layers slam poetry and constant experimentation into their performances.
